The Wood — Not Harvested, But Reverently Rediscovered
Every piece of wood that finds its way into our collection begins not in a forest, but in history. We work exclusively with reclaimed timber sourced from two precious and finite legacies:
- Century-Old Architectural Relics: Beams and columns salvaged from traditional structures that have stood for generations, their service in one form lovingly concluded.
- Qing Dynasty Antiquities: Rare stocks of timber preserved from the imperial era, a tangible link to the craftsmanship of China’s last dynasty.
A Sacred, Protected Species
The wild Phoebe zhennan tree, the true source of Golden Phoebe Wood, is a Class II Protected Plant Species in China. Its felling has been strictly prohibited for decades. We wholly respect and uphold this vital conservation law.
Therefore, we do not harvest. We reclaim, restore, and revere.
The material we use has already lived a profound first life—often centuries long. It has acclimated through time, achieving a state of perfect equilibrium that no kiln can replicate. This ancient, natural stabilization is the alchemy that grants our wood its supernatural resistance to warping or cracking.
By giving these historic timbers a purposeful new life, we engage in the most respectful form of sustainability. We honor the tree’s legacy, comply with modern conservation, and transform preserved beauty into future heirlooms.
